Turkey Day Outfit!

Thanksgiving or as I like to call it Turkey Day (T-Day for short) is a week away! This is a GREAT holiday because there is no present stress, and it’s pretty much about my favorite pastime, eating! There are two things I’m always thinking CONSTANTLY:

  1. What I am eating next
  2. What I am wearing next

That makes this a very appropriate post! Here is my theory on dressing for T-Day:

If your family or friends dress attire allows it, GO AS COMFORTABLE AS POSSIBLE!

I get it – some familys and friends are like lets dress-up and make this a classy affair, but I believe you should leave the tights, party dress and heels for the upcoming holiday parties! On T-Day your clothes should be as loose as someone who’s had a couple cocktails. This provides for MAX eating capacity. We are thankful we get to share this wonderful day with people we care about, eating delicious foods, so embrace it!

On the flip side, I get it, you still wanna be cute. So I’ve come up with the perfect T-Day outfit that is somewhere in between tight jeans and cute sweater and a full-on sweats (which you probs can’t get away with but if you can DO IT). And here it is my friends, that earth-shattering, ground-breaking, one of a kind look:

LEGGINGS AND A LONG COMFY SWEATER!!!! Haha, I know, I know, this is every basic’s (myself included) uniform, but why mess with a good thing??? Lemme break it down for you…

Step 1) Leggings – this should be obvious, but I have three words for you: elastic waistband, duh! My preference for leggings are your basic Lululemon Wunder Unders (crop or full length) – 1. / 2.; however, I know they are on the pricier and I’ve heard good things about the Zella Live In leggings so I included them, too. 3. I prefer leggings that can double as workout pants for several reasons. The quality of them is usually better than regular cotton leggings. They hold better through repeated wearing and washing. They FIT significantly better. We all don’t look like Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid walking around in leggings so active legging material has a little bit of a hold to the fabric to give your legs and booty the best shape possible. The waistband is typically wider and non-pinch or min-pinch at the top with a good compression but give still. Those cotton ones with a thin band, they either pinch or slide down and no one likes that. Last, but not least, you get double usage out of them! You can wear them out and about or at the gym. It’s a twofer! Who doesn’t want to get double their bang for their buck?

Step 2) Layering cami – I love these long layering cami’s from H&M – 1. These bad boys are so long so you booty and other areas can be covered and you don’t feel so exposed in your leggings. If you don’t care about that, you can ditch the cami, but I like the layered look. Also, these from H&M are great basics. Like I said, they are long, no built-in shelf bra (ugh hate those), inexpensive ($6!!!) and come in a variety of colors. You really can’t go wrong with this purchase.

Step 3) The long comfy sweater – On T-Day, you just wanna be cozy and comfortable between food courses, and this definitely provides that. So I bought this sweater at H&M literally YESTERDAY, and for some reason, it’s not on-line. I’m sorry. It is in stores for $19.99, I do know this for a fact because I had exchange sizes today (got a small instead of a medium if that helps). I found some other options – 1. / 2. / 3. / 4. / 5. / 6. / 7. / 8.

Step 4) Long necklace – This is a key piece of the outfit. It elevates the whole look from Sunday Bum-day to “hi, I’m dressed appropriate for family and friends”. I believe it’s important to stick with a long, light pendant necklace. You don’t want to be weighed down by a statement necklace or heavy pendant. It will hinder you from your mission of food, food and more food. The filigree leaf pendant above is from H&M, and again, even though I bought it yesterday, it’s not on-line. It is in stores and $6.99 (STEAL). Here are two more good ones from H&M – 1. / 2. – both I saw in stores, too. I actually almost got #1, but when I saw the filigree leaf, I fell in love. If you are in love with the leaf as well, I found it at Charming Charlies – 3.

Step 5) Slippers – Sorry that the slippers are not in the picture. I have a pair of Ugg slippers that my amazing husband gave me for the first Christmas we were together in 2009. Best present! Needless to say, they’ve been through a lot in six years and are not photograph appropriate. I’m sorry lol. Okay – back to why slippers…because they are comfortable, keep your feet warm, and cuter than socks and your feet (sorry)! We (my family members) don’t do the holidays without our slippers. Here are some great options (mine are the first pair, I recommend the second if you wanna go the Ugg route; the laces come untied a lot) – 1. / 2. / 3. – great price-range in the last link at DSW.

There you have it my friends…the PERFECT Thanksgiving outfit! Hopefully this inspires you to be as comfortable as you possibly can be on Turkey Day! More importantly though, I hope you and the people you choose to spend T-Day with have the best day ever!

Peace out,

Wet Hair, Don’t Care
