The Perfect Dress for Any Wedding: The Complete Guest’s Guide

It’s officially wedding season! This time of year can be absolutely crazy, fun but a little expensive! Between the gifts, potential travel, and finding the right dress for each type of wedding, a girl can go broke pretty quickly. Also, it might be kinda hard to figure out what you should wear to what type of wedding. You have a beach or outdoor day wedding one weekend and then a cocktail attire or black tie the next – so many dress options! Well, I’ve taken the time to weed through them and hopefully help simplify this process. I’ve found the best dresses in a range of styles and prices. Most of these dresses can pull double or triple duty so you can re-wear them to other weddings or events you have this season!

The look I’m wearing is a bold floral print dress. I love this dress and a good print because it will take you through almost all the weddings and events associated with them. They are fun and fresh enough for a beach or outdoor event, perfect for brunch or church but you can style prints and florals a little more for a cocktail reception, like I did below. I kept the jewelry on the simpler side, to let the pattern speak for itself. I did choose a fun pair of heels though to make slightly dressier and a bold pink lip to contrast the blue!

Now below I have picked out some of my fave print dresses for you to browse through! You can also see some of the best floral print dresses in this earlier post here.

Next up we have classic LBDs and some not so classic ones – you can NEVER go wrong with a little black dress. There is nothing more versatile than an LBD and these below range as low as $68 to $350 which I know is on the steeper end; however, you can wear it all year round (not just one season) and to multiple events. Having a great black dress is more of an investment than an expense. Also, these dresses can check almost all the wedding type buckets – for black tie, you can dress it up with jewelry and sophisticated hair and make-up. Similar styling works for cocktail attire, and you can even wear it to a daytime wedding if you want. Only only that is slightly tricky is beach; however, depending on which one you pick, you could pull it off with a cute pair of dressy wedges – no heels on the beach (or grass for that matter)!

Conversely to basic black, you can go with color! Sometimes, that might even be better to get multiple wears if you a lot of day, outdoor, brunch or beach weddings. Also, it’s summertime so who wouldn’t want to bring the color?

Finally, I’ve got Maxi (full length) dresses to round out this post! The funny part about Maxi dresses (other than the fact that the name reminds me of maxi pad – I know, I’m five years old) is that I feel like they are either BEACH or BLACK TIE. I know that’s not the case, but some are just so perfect for the beach or a daytime outdoor reception; whereas, others are super fancy and black tie appropriate. Just like with any dress though, you can always take a Maxi dress to the next level or down a notch with the accessories and your hair/make-up!

And that rounds out my complete wedding guest dress guide! There are 75 different dresses to choose from ranging in price, style and color so I really hope you find one or two to get you through your wedding season! Happy shopping!

Peace out,
